Sensei Raymond began his karate training at eight years of age with the Castle Hill Karate Club under the guidance of instructor Jake Leslie; a role model who sparked Raymond’s dream of one day opening his very own dojo.
Excelling through his coloured belts, it came as no surprise that in August 2001, at just 20-years-old, he was invited by chief instructor Takahashi Sensei of the Japan Karate Association Australia (JKAA) to grade for his 3rd Dan black belt. Raymond graded successfully and went on to become the youngest 3rd Dan in the history of the organisation.
His hard work and dedication paid off once more when in March 2002 he realised his long-term goal of being selected for the Australian national karate team.
Today, Raymond is a seasoned competitor on both the national and international circuits and has represented Australia in numerous world cups across the globe.
Among his competition highlights are placing in the final 16 of the kata event at the World Karate Confederation World Cup in Aberdeen, Scotland and holding both the JKAA state and national kata and kumite championships simultaneously. More recently, his performance at the Japan Karate Association Tri Nations meet in Johannesburg, South Africa earned him and his teammates a silver medal in the team kata event.
Drawing on his extensive experience training under the watchful gaze of internationally renowned masters, he also coached the JKAA national women’s team to several medal placements in the Sydney World Cup in 2006.
A many-time recipient of the Elite Athlete Scholarship for Karate with both the NSW Institute of Sport and the Sydney Academy of Sport, Raymond continually strives to further develop his own karate skills and create new benchmarks in martial arts training practices for his students.
